Regularisation of immigration status
For people who need to regularise their stay in Kenya, for example while awaiting a permit or pass.
Who it is for
Regularisation of status is for:
- people awaiting the issue or renewal of a permit or pass
- children of foreign nationals born in Kenya
- visitors who entered Kenya at a point without a Kenyan border post
Reasons for regularisation include awaiting a permit or pass, medical treatment, litigation, relocation facilitated by IOM, and voluntary relocation arranged by an embassy.
What you need
Have these ready before you apply. Incomplete applications are not accepted.

Copy of your passport (bio-data page)

Proof of your permit or pass application, and the payment receipt

Your current permit or pass endorsement, or your foreign national certificate Renewals

For infants: the parents’ documents and the child’s birth certificate

Fees are set by the Department and can change: the amount on your invoice is the one that applies. Fees are non-refundable once paid.
How to apply

Step 1: Sign in with eCitizen
Use your Government of Kenya eCitizen account. If you do not have one yet, registration is free.
Create an eCitizen account -
Step 2: Complete the application
Fill in Form 22 online, for yourself or on behalf of someone else, and print it when you finish.

Step 3: Present your documents
Take your printed application and the documents listed above to the immigration office named under “Good to know”.

Step 4: Follow your application
You receive email and account notifications as your application moves through each stage.
Good to know
- Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Hard copies of your documents are presented so that your passport can be endorsed.
